¡¡¡WONKY WONKY WONKY!!!

I got out my Wonky project for last Friday's quilt meeting and over the weekend I continued and made some advancements on this project. It is fun and liberating to work on a project that requires very little measuring or accuracy.

I'm just getting back into the swing of things since our return from Costa Maya and haven't touched a thread of quilting work.....but I'll post a photo of something I made a couple of years ago. It is the quilt I made as a graduation gift.

Majahual

For the past week we have been beach combing, swimming and eating lovely plates of seafood in the area of Majahual on the Mexican Caribbean coast.

En la última semana hemos estado caminando a lo largo la playa, nadando en el mar y comiendo esquisito platos de mariscos en y cerca de Majahual en la Costa Maya del Mar Caribe.

15 August 2010 - Where have I been??? ¿¿Dónde he estado??

Well, for the longest time I was quilting the "Organized Insanity" quilt but I ran out of quilting thread and had almost given up finding more.....but persistence ruled out and I found an ample supply in the last store I tried.....it was a good thing. Then about the time I found the thread we had decided a quick to Guatemala would be a good idea. For the trip I had to break down my sewing room to make room for our cat babysitter.....and it is taking me a lifetime to get my big sewing machine all set up again to continue with the quilting.....in the meantime I was working on the "Double 4 Patch". Tomorrow I am determined to get back to the "Organized Insanity" quilting....I've got the body of the quilt quilted I just need to attach and quilt the borders......

Por mucho tiempo he estado quilteando "Locura Ordenado". Bueno, hasta que el hilo agotó. No pude encontrar más hilo por un tiempo largo. Después de una busqueda larga lo encontré el hilo....pero en esta entonces decidimos hacer una viaje rápido para Guatemala. Tuvé que quitar mis cosas de coser para hacer espacio para la mujer que vinó para cuidar mi gata. Ahora ha estado mucho tiempo y no he tenido ganas para poner la maquina de coser en su lugar. Mientras tanto empecé el quilt "Double 4 Patch". Mañana voy a arreglar todo para empezar de nuevo el quilteando de "Locura Ordenado" o voy a sentir muy malo con mi mismo!! La mayor parte de "Locura Ordenado" ya esta quilteado solo me queda los borderes para quiltear.....

14 August 2010 Double 4 Patch Quilt

Well, I have started another project.....just can't help myself. The inspiration came from the Exuberant Color quilting lady. Her quilt is called "Chocolate and Caramel". Mine has a few more colors than chocolate and caramel but it all leans to the brown/yellow/cream/rust colors.

Empecé otro proyecto......no puedo parame. La inspiración vino del la mujer del blog de Exuberant Color. Su quilt se llama "Chocolate y Caramel". El mío tiene un poco más colores que chocolate y caramel pero todos los colores se puede ser llamada en la categoria de morrones/amarillos/cremas/oxido.

It has been a long time that I have not posted. I have been on a secret mission and could not reveal what I was working on. Our quilting group in Cancun has been working on a group project, the Going Away Quilt for Wendy our quilting guru. Wendy is moving away and we all converged to make a surprise signature quilt for a gift. We presented the quilt last Thursday and this is my first chance to post since then.

Mucho tiempo ha pasado desde la ultima vez que he escrito en este blog. He estado involucrado en un proyecto secreto. Las mujeres del grupo de quilt en Cancún han trabajado en un quilt de despedida por nuestro líder, Wendy. Wendy se va este julio, así que reunimos para hacer un quilt por ella. El jueves pasado lo presentamos el quilt y esto es el primer chanceé he tenido para escribir.

I Missed It In May..../Lo Perdi En El Mes De Mayo

Sorry, I didn't get a completion in May - not even close. Hoping for better luck in June.....But I will send a photo of a very old project that I did finish....It was a quilt that I made for a very good friend who came and took care of me for a week after an accident, I'll always be in her debt.

New Project/Proyecto Nuevo

Next Monday I'm teaching a class on this technique. I have made two circles and have two more ready to put together. The reason for this is that I have to find the best way and the quickest way and the easiest way to assemble the block. The circles are really fun to make and I'm seeing a new quilt project developing!! The class is called Espirales - Spirals for you English speaking folks!

En el lunes que viene enseño una clase de esta técnico. He hecho dos círculos y tengo dos más para juntar. Tengo que encontrar el mejor manera de juntar el bloque. ¡¡Divierto el proceso de los círculos y veo un proyecto nuevo desarrollando!! La Clase se llama Espirales.

The Many Scrappy Trip Project Continues / Sigue el Proyecto de Mucho Viajes del Retasos

I just can't seem to leave this one alone! I completed the Chaos version of the Many Scrappy Trips Quilt. As I was working on this version I wondered what would happen if I made 4 identical blocks and put them into 4 block Superblocks. I liked what I got. I named it Organized Chaos. It has not become a quilt yet....the super blocks are on hold.....for yet another idea! The photos show fabrics that I selected for my color palette.

No puedo dejar este proyecto! Terminé el quilt de Mucho Viajes del Retrasos que se llama Caos. Cuando yo estaba trabajando en el quilt Caos me preguntaba que pasaría que yo haría cuatro bloques idénticos para hacer Superbloques. Me gustó el resulto. Lo nombré Caos Ordenado. Todavía no se pone en un quilt.....los Superbloques ya están esperando por una otra idea mía! Las fotos muestran las telas que escogí para hacer el palette de colores.

A Long Time Gone/Mucho Tiempo Fuera de Espacio Cyber

WoE!! I've been gone from cyber space for a long time..... Well, now Easter Holiday has ended and my dear beloved company has left and I've had 5 days to recupe. Yesterday was my Quilter Friday and we met at one of the lady's homes. We are continuing with the Wonky Blocks - which I've made as many as I'm going to make, 12 blocks. Now I'm starting to work on the sashing, which is based on Game One, Hop Scotch, from the book, "Quilter's Playtime, Games with Fabrics" by Dianne S. Hire. I'm posting a photo of the 12 blocks and just a couple of sashings. Yesterday at the meeting I worked at making more but have not photographed my work yet.....

Also my friends that came to visit brought me 3 new books. One is mentioned above, The Game book, and the other 2 are Kaffe Fassett books. Along with the books they brought me more Kaffe fabrics and tools from Leah Day's free motion quilting website. I have had a little bit of time to work with the free motion tools and they are a big help. The tools include: A slippery surface pad to go over my sewing machine bed to facilitate the movement of the quilt over the surface and gloves called Machingers, which I LOVE and bobbin washers!!! I have not yet tried out the bobbin washers but hopefully I will soon. I can see improvement with these tools already. I will be posting a photo of the books now. The Kaffe books are beautiful and there are many projects that I'm dieing to start!! Later today when my work is done I will try to send more photos of the new fabrics and the free motion tools.

¡Qué Cosa! Mucho tiempo que no he estado en espacio caber. Se acabó Pascua y mis queridas amigas ya se fueron y he tenido 5 días para recuperar. Ayer fue el viernes de quilting y reuné con mis amigas de quilting. Seguimos con los Bloques Wonky. Hice 12 bloques y esto es todo lo que voy a coser. Empiezo con los marcos. Uso una idea de un libro nuevo que me llevó las amigas que me visitaron por Pascua. El libro es “Quilter’s Playtime, Games with Fabrics” por Dianne S. Hire. La foto con este mensaje va a tener los 12 bloques y unos pocos de los marcos. En la reunión costuré los marcos.

También las visitantes me llevaron 3 libros nuevos. Uno mencioné arriba, “Quilter’s Playtime, Games with Fabrics” y los dos otros son libros por Kaffe Fassett con sus diseños hecho con sus telas. También con los libros fueron telas de Kaffe Fassett y herramientas para hacer “free motion quilting” del website de Leah Day. He tenido chance de practicar con las herramientas para “free motion quilting” y ellas ayudan mucho. Las herramientas son: un plastico muy resbalosa que pongo sobre la superfice de la maquina de coser para hacer más fácil recorrer la tela debajo de la aguja y también hay guantes que se llama “Machingers” que me encanta y algo que se lleva abajo del bobina que ayuda el hilo del bobina. No he usado la cosa de bobina todavía, ojala que pronto. Ya veo que estoy mejorando la técnica de “free motion quilting” con las herramientas nuevas que he usado. Voy a incluir aquí fotos de los libros. Los libros de Kaffe son hermosos y hay muchos proyectos que quiere hacer. Más tarde hoy después de terminar mi trabajo voy a enviar fotos de las telas y también las herramientas para “free motion quilting”.

3D Sampler

Some of my quilting buddies in Cancun were interested in this quilt and how to fold the pieces. Last Monday we got together and I showed them some fundamentals. It is always great fun to get together and sew with friends. The Spanish was a challenge but my friend, Wendy, is fluent in English and Spanish and I don't know what I would have done without her help!! Unfortunately, I didn't get any photos......2 Boo's - BOO BOO!

As for this quilt....it is with my mother-in-law keeping her warm through the cold Minnesota weather. I've thought frequently that I'd like to make another one like it. I used only fabrics that I hand-dyed in it. I'd have to dye some more yellow fabric - but that would certainly be easy enough!! Then I think about the purpose of this blog and all the projects that are already started and waiting patiently to be finished!!! Maybe later.....


Algunos de mís amigos en quilt quisieron hacer este quilt que se llama 3D Sampler. Se usa una técnica donde dobla la tela por un “look” 3D. Nos juntamos el lunes pasado y las mostré los fundamentales. Siempre es super divertido a unir y coser con amigas. El español es problematic pero mi amiga Wendy habla ingles e español y me ayudó mucho. Lastima, no saque fotos 2 Boo’s – ¡BOO BOO!

Sobre este quilt, está con mi suegra ayudandola con los inviernos frios en Minnesota. He pensado muchas veces que yo debo hacer otro para la colección mío. En esta quilt solo usé telas que yo tintaba. Necesito más de la tela armarillo….pero esto sería facil! Pero necesito quedar en mente….tengo muchos proyecto que empecé y debo terminar estos primero….. Quizas más tarde

I DID IT!!! ¡¡LO HICE¡¡

The month of April has been a success!!! I finished a quilt!!! YEAH!!! I started making blocks for this project last summer and took the project on vacation to Guatemala. I was undergoing Efudix treatments for pre-cancerous skin cells and could not go out in the day time, so I stayed in the room and sewed. I learned so much from making the blocks about fabric relationships. I was having so much fun with this exercise that I just kept making blocks.....I have enough for maybe 3 quilts..... Anyway, this quilt is done and I'm happy!!!! BTW, my Friday quilt group has started making these blocks and we are just having a ball with them!!! So, it looks like I'll just keep taking these many scrappy trips for some time to come!!


¡¡¡Éxito en el mes de Abril!!! ¡¡Terminé un quilt!! ¡¡YEAH!! Empecé los bloques de este proyecto el verano pasado cuando estuve de vacaciones en Guatemala. Estuve en tratamiento por problemas de piel causado por el sol. No pude salir en el sol, así que ya estaba condenado de quedarme adentro del cuarto todo el día. Por esto durante del día cosí en este proyecto del "Muchos Viajes de Retazos". Aprendí mucho haciendo estos bloques sobre las relaciones entre telas. Me divertí tanto que hice muchos y muchos de estos bloques. Tengo suficiente bloques para hacer 3 quilts. Bueno, lo más importante es que un quilt está terminado y ¡estoy feliz! Y ahora mi grupo de amigas de quilting ha empezado con estos bloques y todos están divirtiendo. ¡¡Parece que voy estar haciendo estos bloques por mucho más tiempo!!

Organzied Chaos & Organized Insanity/Caos Ordenado y Locura Ordenado

I just can't seem to leave this one alone! I completed the Chaos version of the Many Scrappy Trips Quilt. As I was working on this version I wondered what would happen if I made 4 identical blocks and put them into 4 block Superblocks. I liked what I got. I named it Organized Chaos. It has not become a quilt yet....the super blocks are on hold.....for yet another idea! I have had the Organized Chaos blocks up on a design wall in my bedroom for sometime. I really like it. But the chaotic areas where the superblocks met set me to thinking..... ¿What if I Organized those areas? It would require more planning. I would not be making 4 identical blocks anymore. But the result is even more pleasing to me. And I do still get to work with many different fabric combinations - I'd just have to plan them more. What do you think????

No puedo dejar este proyecto! Terminé el quilt de Mucho Viajes del Retrasos que se llama Caos. Cuando yo estaba trabajando en el quilt Caos me preguntaba que pasaría que yo haría cuatro bloques idénticos para hacer Superbloques. Me gustó el resulto. Lo nombré Caos Ordenado. Todavía no se pone en un quilt.....los Superbloques ya están esperando por una otra idea mía! He tenido los bloques de Caos Ordenado en una la pared de diseño que está en mi recamara por un buen rato. Me gusta mucho. Pero las zonas caóticas donde se juntan los Superblocks me pusieron a pensar......¿Que pasaría si pongo en orden estas zonas? Requería más planeando. Ya no costura 4 bloques idénticos. Pero me gusto aun más el resulto. Y todavía estoy trabajando con muchos combinaciones de telas diferentes. Solo necesito planear los bloques más que los otros. ¿Que piensas tu?

Adding Borders to Chaos/Aumentando Borderes a Caos

I'm at the border stage of this quilt.....could it be possible that I can finish it in the month of March??? That would keep me on schedule of completing one quilt per month, even though the Quilt As You Go Quilt didn't really get finished in February. It was an early March completion, so I will count it as a February quilt only if I finish another quilt in March, that would be the "Many Scrappy Trips Quilt". Wish me luck....I'll need it!
OH, BTW, Which inner border do you prefer? The Dark Dark Green or the Rich Rusty Red? I have one more option but didn't have time to cut it and put it up on the wall.....

Estoy en la etapa de borderes con este quilt.....¿¿¿podría ser possible a terminar en el mes de Marzo??? Si termino voy a quedarme con mi meta de cumplir uno quilt por mes, aunque no terminé el quilt "Quilt As You Go" en el mes de Febrero, lo terminé en los principios del mes de Marzo. Contaré "Quilt As You Go" como un quilt de Febrero solo si termino este version de "Many Scrappy Trips" en Marzo. Que me desean mucho suerte.....¡lo necesito! Y, ¿Cual border prefiere? ¿El Verde Oscuro o el Rojo Oxido? Tengo otro tela que quiere probar pero no tuve tiempo para corta y poner en la pared el diseño.

Many Scrappy Trips

Last summer I found a quilt design that really interested me from Bonnie at www.quiltville.com. It is called Many Scrappy Trips. I spent a healthy amount of time making the blocks. It was so much fun seeing how the fabric combinations were turning out that I just couldn't stop pulling out more fabrics and finding out who went with who and how they reacted to each other!! Then as is my way....I started second guessing myself. ¿Do I make the blocks totally random or do I add a little bit of organization? In order to see which I would prefer I made tons and tons of blocks. I probably have enough to make three big lap quilts. When a friend was visiting me last Friday I pulled out the blocks and she gave me the inspiration to start working on them again. Not making new blocks, but to start batting and quilting the blocks already made in the "Quilt As You Go" method of quilt assembly. I think I might be able to finish one or two in the next week or two or three. Hopefully I'll get at least one finished more March is out.... The random block arrangement I will call "Chaos". And the Little Bit of Organization arrangement I will call "Organized Chaos".

En el verano de 2009 encontré un diseño de quilt que me agarró muy fuerte. Es del website www.quiltville.com y la mujer del sitio se llama Bonnie. El nombre del diseño es “Many Scrappy Trips” o en español, “Muchos Viejes de Retazos”. Gasté mucho tiempo construyendo los bloques. Fue tan divertido a ver los diferentes combinaciones y como se relacionó juntos que seguí jalando más y más telas de la colección mío. Antes que yo sepa tuve un montón de bloques. Y entonces pensé ¿¿¿que pasaría si yo pongo un poquito de orden el la mescla??? Ahora tengo suficiente bloques por 3 quilts. Durante de una visita de una amiga la mostré los bloques….ella me dio la inspiración de trabajar con estos bloques de nuevo. Pusé en sándwich unos de los bloques y empecé de quiltear los con el método “Quilt As You Go”. Ojalá puedo terminar algo en el mes de Marzo. Un grupo de bloques llamo “Caos” porque la manner de arreglar es muy randóm. Y con un poquito de organización pusé el nombre de “Caos Ordenado”.

Wonky Blocks/Bloques Wonky

My quilt group meets each Friday and in the last weeks we have brought our bags of scraps to the meetings and started making the same kind of blocks, Wonky Blocks. It is fast, fun and requires no accuracy. It has been great fun seeing how differently each person's blocks are turning out. I have decided to use predominantly green fabrics in my blocks. If I'm smart I will photograph everyone's blocks and post a photo of all the blocks. They are all beautiful!!

Todos los viernes nos reunimos para coser juntos. En las últimas semanas hemos llevado nuestros retazos a los reuniones y empezamos coser bloques compartiendo los retazos. Es fácil y no requiere exactitud. Es muy divertido a ver como variado son los bloques de cada uno de nosotras. Por mis bloques he decidido a concentrar en el color verde. Debo sacar fotos de los bloques de todos para mostrar como diferente resulta cada una. ¡¡Todos son hermosos!!
