Duality/Dualidad

Here is my next offering for the "Proyecto 8 x 11".  The theme, DUALITY.  I used Man and Woman for my expression of this theme employing inspiration from Freddy Moran and her man/woman blocks.  I added the use of light and dark background and and black and white checkerboard border, all pretty obvious themes of duality.  I'm happy with my final result and look forward to the next theme whatever it may be.

Aquí está mi próxima oferta para el "Proyecto 8 x 11". El tema, DUALIDAD. Yo usé hombre y la mujer para mi expresión de esta tema y conseguí la inspiración de la famosa quiltera, Freddy Moran y sus bloques de hombre y mujer. He añadido el uso de la luz y la oscuridad de fondo y el borde del tablero de ajedrez en blanco y negro, todos los temas son muy obvios de la dualidad. Estoy contento con mi resultado final y esperamos que el siguiente tema sea lo que sea.

Double 4 Patch Update

Just a progress report on the Double 4 Patch project.  It just seems like I've been working on this one FOREVER!!!  But I plug along - slow by steady.  I'm to the border stage.  All borders are attached and right now I'm sandwiching the borders in preparation for quilting.  Then it will just be binding and label....and one more WIP off my list.

Sólo un informe de progreso sobre el proyecto de doble parche 4. Simplemente parece que he estado trabajando en esto para siempre!  Estoy a la etapa de los borderes. Todos los bordes están unidos y ahora mismo estoy "sandwiching" the borderes en la preparación para quiltearlos. Entonces, sólo será el biez y la etiqueta .... y un trabajo en curso más de mi lista.

New Project......¿Liberated?

Well, I've become quite a fan of Gwen Marston and Freddy Moran.  I have purchased their two collaborative books and two Gwen Marston books.  So far I'm only on the tip of the iceberg with putting their principles into practice.  I've made the liberated star blocks to make a backing for a Double 4 Patch quilt (a work presently in progress) and I've made a quilt using house blocks (for my friend Gail - the Fast Cats Quilts).  I'm finding it difficult to stray from the quilting principles of exactness and accuracy - I felt that the house blocks in Fast Cats were too straight and square.....but I have to say that I did pretty good with the star blocks for the Double 4 Patch quilt - and they were very fun to make.  Now I've begun playing with a medallion quilt design.....I'm not too far into it.  I've only cut the center piece and have added 2 borders.  The first border is made up of half square triangles and yes, they are pretty accurately done.....but I did not try to make them fit exactly to the center - I just cut the HST's off at the end of the side they were attached to......after that border I added a plain border - the strips are the same width but I didn't use all the same fabric - there are 4 different fabrics in this "plain" appearing border.  So now I ask myself, "¿How liberated am I? and ¿How capable am I of achieving a truly liberated affect?"  All I can say is, more investigation is needed.


Bueno, me he convertido en un gran fan de Gwen Marston y Freddy Moran. He comprado sus dos libros en colaboración y dos libros de Gwen Marston. Hasta el momento Sólo estoy en la punta del iceberg con la puesta en práctica de sus principios. He hecho los bloques de estrellas liberadas para hacer un respaldo de un quilt de Double 4 Patch (una obra actualmente en curso) y he hecho un edredónquilt usando bloques de la casa (para mi amiga Gail – el quilt “Gatos Rápidos”). Me resulta difícil apartarse de los principios de quilting de exactitud y precisión - Sentí que los bloques de las casas en el quilt Gatos Rapidos eran demasiados rectos y cuadrados ..... pero tengo que decir que lo hice bastante bien con los bloques de estrellas para el quilt  Double 4 Patch - y que era muy divertido de hacer. Ahora he empezado a jugar con un diseño de quilt medalla ..... no estoy muy avanzada con el. Yo sólo he cortado la pieza central y se han añadido 2 de los borderes. El primer border se compone de Half Square Trianlges y sí, se hacen con bastante exactitud ..... pero yo no tratar de hacer que encajen exactamente con los lados del centro - que acaba de cortar el HST es bajar en la final de la parte que se adjunta a ...... después del border he añadido un borde liso - las tiras son de la misma anchura pero no usó todo la tela misma - hay 4 telas diferentes en este border. Así que ahora yo me pregunto, "¿Cómo liberada soy yo? Y ¿Cómo soy capaz de lograr un efecto verdaderamente liberado?" Todo lo que puedo decir es que, más investigación es necesaria.

Looking Ahead

When I was building Fast Cats I found some good patchwork that I'd started back in 2005.  During our vacation in 2005 while we were in Guatemala I started a quilt....it was with Gail in mind.  She likes yellows, blues and purples.  The block that I was making for the project is called The Lady of the Lake.  I used to be a Lady of the Lake in my former life so I was attracted to this block, besides, you might have noticed, I love squares and triangles.....all 'round the Lady of the Lake block is a very good block for me.  But, of course, the quilt would not be mine in the end.  What happened, though, as happens more times than not with my quilts, the Lady of the Lake did not go to Gail.  It went to my god-daughter for her wedding.  And I only have one awful photo to show for it.  I really like the end product.  It was a scrappy one to be sure but within each block I used the same fabric - but every block I made had a different fabric all it's own (except for the background fabric, which was the same throughout the quilt).  And with the Lady of the Lake I sewed together 4 blocks to make a super block.  In the super blocks I tried to keep colors together by category, such as, all blue fabric-ed blocks or all purple or all turquoise etc. etc.   I hope you can see that in the photo.

Cuando yo estaba construyendo Fast Cats he encontrado algunos retazos que había empezado en 2005. Durante nuestras vacaciones en el año 2005 mientras estábamos en Guatemala empecé una colcha .... fue con Gail en mente. A ella le gustan los colores amarillos, azules y morados. El bloque que estaba haciendo para el proyecto se llama La Dama del Lago. Yo solía ser una Dama del Lago en mi vida anterior, así que me atrajo a este bloque, además, me encantan los cuadrados y triángulos ..... por esto La Dama del Lago es un bloque muy bueno para mí. Pero, por supuesto, la colcha no sería mío en el fin.  Que pasa, sin embargo, como ocurre más veces de las que no con mis colchas, la Dama del Lago no fue a Gail. Fue a mi ahijada para su boda. Y sólo tengo una foto terrible para demostrarlo. Me gusta mucho el producto final. Fue una quilt de retazos a ser seguro, pero dentro de cada bloque utilicé la misma tela.   Pero cada bloque que hice tenía una tela diferente (a excepción fue de la tela de fondo, que era la misma en toda la colcha).   Con la Dama del lago costuré a cuatro bloques para hacer una super-bloque. En los super bloques traté de mantener los colores entre sí por categoría, como por ejemplo, todos los azules juntos en el Super-bloque o púrpura juntos o todos de color turquesa, etc, etc, espero que usted puede ver que en la foto.

BUT as is my way, while I was making the Lady of the Lake I was second guessing myself.  It was really giving me kittens.  The thought keep sneaking in that I'd like to see this design with a very random color placement.  SO,,,,,as I was cutting fabric for this quilt I also cut for a future mixed up color version of the quilt.  But also as I'm prone to do, I got distracted, and started new projects and set this one aside.  Well, of course, I finished the wedding gift.  What was not finished and stored away in it's own little box was:

Pero, como mi mannera de ser, mientras yo estaba haciendo la Dama del Lago que ocupó el segundo lugar a mí mismo de adivinanzas. Fue realmente me da gatitos. El pensaba mantener escondidas en el que me gustaría ver este diseño con un color muy colocación de azar. POR LO QUE,,,,, como yo estaba cortando la tela para esta colcha que también redujo de un futuro mezclado versión en color de la colcha. Pero también soy propenso a hacer, me distraje, y comenzó a nuevos proyectos y establecer éste a un lado. Bueno, por supuesto, terminé el regalo de bodas. Lo que no fue terminado y guardado en su propia cajita fue:

Bueno, Bueno, Bueno, tengo los ingredientes para una colcha de buen tamaño. Y lo que necesito son cosas para practicar mi acolchar manos libres ..... ¿Qué hacer, qué hacer ......? Es en mi lista de WIP (Obras en ejecución) ..... bueno, tal vez hay algo que hacer ....
