Milky Way Blocks

Yesterday I worked a bit on my Milky Way blocks.  My goal was to see if I could get the blocks to consistently finish at exactly 9 1/2"   There were some adjustments needed to the seam allowance but I did it!!!

Ayer trabajé un poco con los bloques de Milky Way.  La meta fue para cumplir los bloques y tener los terminar a las 9 1/2 pulgadas cada uno.  Tuve que ajustar la costurar ¡pero finalmente logré!

Surprise Visit/Visita Sorprendente

What a coincidence!  Yesterday I was lollygagging on the computer looking at photos of Loli and her babies and remembering all the fun we have with the 12 little pups and guess who stopped by?  Willie, the daddy of the pups stopped for a visit.  Loli and Fabiola really enjoyed playing with him as well as we human components did.  They ran and jumped and played with doggy bliss the way Airedales do so well.  So here in the photo are from left to right: Daddy Willie, Mama Loli and Baby Fabiola (she'll be 10 months old in a few days - where does the time go?). 

¡Que coincidencia!  Ayer yo fui gastando tiempo mirando fotos de Loli y sus cachorros y recordando como fue con 12 cachorros ¿y adivina quien nos visitó?  Willie, el papá de los cachorros llegó para visitar sus chicas favoritas.  Loli y Fabiola divirtieron mucho jugando con el  tanto como nosotros seres humanos a ver los juntos.  Corrieron, brincaron y jugaron con tan dichoso como hacen los Airedales.  Aquí en la foto es la familia de izquierda hasta la derecha:  Papá Willie, Mamá Loli y Nena Fabiola (Fabi va a cumplir 10 meses en unos días……que rápido corre el tiempo)

Pups/Cachorros

Georgie and Fabiola last May when Georgie was still our puppy.  This is a one of my favorite photos of Georgie (now known as Don Julio by his forever Mama, Julieta) and our little Fabiola.  Someday SOMEDAY I will learn to make a protrait quilt and this will be the inspiration for that.  Georgie is the upright pup and Fabiola is the sideways pup.  They played so nice together.  But Georgie has found a wonderful home with my very very good friend in Mérida.

Georgie and Fabiola en el mes de mayo 2011.  Todavía Georgie  vivió con nosotros.  Esta foto es uno de mis favoritos de los muchachos.  Georgie ya ha encontrado un nuevo hogar con mi muy buena amiga, Julieta un Mérida - su nombre ya es Don Julio pero a mi siempre va a ser Georgie.  Un día quiero hacer un quilt basado en esta foto - pero primero necesito aprender el técnico.  Georgie es el cachorro recto y Fabiola es la cachorra en su lado a la derecha de Georgie.  Jugaron tan bonito juntos.  Pero ahora Georgie está muy contento en su nueva familia.

New Inspiration/Inspiración Nuevo

This book is a very nice book for me.  I have found something (well many things) inside that has set me to cutting, cutting and cutting fabric for the last several days......

Me gusto mucho este libro.  Encontré un diseño que me ha puesto cortar, cortar y cortar telas por los últimos dias......

The colors will be different.  But this is the quilt "Milky Way".

One fabric Quilt/Un Quilt de solo una tela

This is the fabric I chose for my One Block Wonder project.  I bought this fabric by the design repeat.  For this technique six repeats are required.  Then the fabric is cut into six segments by the repeat.  With pins the segments are alined to place the fabric as exactly as possible on top of each other.  When all is alined then strips are cut and then the strips are cut into triangles that have each side of the triangle the same length.  The next step - make kaleidoscope hexagon blocks.  After all the hexagons are make then they are arranged to the quilt makers liking......and now I have arrived at something that looks like this:


 El Marzo pasado vino my amiga, Wendy Amoore, para enseñar una clase en que hacemos un quilt solo de una tela. Escogí esta tela para hacer mi proyecto.  Hay que comprar suficiente tela para rendir seis repeticiones del patrono de la tela y además tener suficiente para bordes y espalda del quilt.   Primero corté los seis segmentos de la tela según las repeticiones del diseño.  Con el uso de alfileres los segmentos son alineados con la más exactitud  como posible para el diseño de cada segmento esté alineado exactamente encima de cada uno .  Próximo la tela es cortado en tiras y las tiras son cortado en triángulos.  Los triángulos son costurado en bloques kaleidoscopios de forma hexágono.  Cuando los hexágonos son arreglado al gusto de la quiltera  el resulto es como la foto abajo.

Curtain Quilt finished but not Mounted

OH BOY this monster has a binding!! I used a new binding technique but I had mixed results. I did the double fold (or just folded and pressed the whole binding in half with the wrong side together) and made one long binding strip and sewed it all around the quilt, folding at the corners which is new for me. I normally cut the binding for each side with about 2 inches for each end to later sew the corners and then stitch the binding to each side and make the corners well, this isn't making any sense and I don't know how to make it make sense.....sorry.... The result being that it was much faster applying the binding but the corners don't look so good. I love this quilt but I will also confess that the quilting is not to my liking either. The quilt was just so BIG (130" x 98) and I did NOT construct it using the Quilt As You Go method. OH WELL...... the quilt part is finished. I just have to figure out how I want to hang the curtain.....

¡Sí!  Está terminado hasta el bies!!  Usé nuevo técnico para coser el bies y no es perfecto.  Doblé en mitad y costuré el bies doblando las esquinas pero las esquinas resultaron no tan bueno.  El técnico que normalmente uso toma más tiempo pero no puedo explicar muy bien….lo siento….  En fin el técnico nuevo fue más rápido pero las esquinas no son bonitas.  Me encanta este quilt pero tengo que decirles el quilting tampoco no es muy bueno.  El quilt fue demasiado grande (130” x 98”) y no lo construyé usando “Quilt As You Go” técnico.  NI MODO…..el quilt ya está terminado.  Solo necesito pensar como voy a colgar la cortina…..
