One Step Forward - Two Steps Back and a fun diversion......

OK, here's the deal, I'm making the Sparkle July Quilt and it calls for all manner of dark fabrics.....and for me the greater the variety of fabrics the greater the joy......AND I KNEW this piece of very dark green was somewhere in  my stash.  I have looked and looked and looked.....OK my stash isn't well organized and it's an agony getting to all that I have......BUT I knew it was somewhere......finally I opened bins of "works in progress" and there it was........
Saved away to use with this old old old project from 2010ish or maybe older....BUT I remember NOW!!  I was saving it to use in the sashing.....and didn't want to accidently use it elsewhere so I stored it with the project......I'm not as dim as I appear!!!

But in order to begin cutting up this lovely very dark green I needed to be sure I had used all I needed for this Old Wonky quilt project.   So  -  Two steps backwards to advance one step forward  -  plus my attention was getting bored with "Sparkle July" and it was just what the bored old doctor ordered....a chance to work on an old exciting project.....you see I got stuck on this project when I was contemplating what to do about the corner stones in the sashing.......and you know what?  It came to me to use a fun old fabric that was just waiting around for a use........fussy cut flowers to put at the corners.......after photographing my progress today......I see I'm going to be changing the corner stones in the mid section of the quilt.....I'm going to make all the corner stones out of the big red flowers......just something I didn't see until I photographed it.....  Well, I know better to go ahead and sew before snapping shots.....but I really didn't know better.....NOW I have to the fun and exciting opportunity to un-sew 6 corner stones....no big deal, I already un-sewed 6 corner stones that were already in place when I found this project in it's storage place.

I bought this fabric back at the beginning of my quilting career in a border town of McAllen, Texas.  The fabrics were all so very inexpensive......some had flaws and not all were really good quilting fabrics.....but what did I know then ..... and what do I know NOW???  I'm using it anyway.....

I belong to the "No Rules" faction of the quilting community.

And progress report on the Sparkle July quilt

OH and you might notice the purse in the foreground.  So I'm slowly advancing.....I have even more since this photo.  I had to remove the stuff along the bottom row to start putting up more blocks.  The quilt will finish 8 x 8 blocks for a total of 64 blocks and making the quilt somewhere around 96" x 96" for a Queen sized quilt that with have a good drop over the side of the bed (I hope, I hope, I hope)

OK and just because I got a little bored with the blocks....as is my way.....I just didn't an experimental goofing around with some block patterns that have curves......the top block here....the reason there is the red-violet strips is because the pattern didn't finish to the 81/2" size that it was supposed to.......so I just added the strips.......not sure if I will have a purpose for these blocks other than just playing and experimenting.........but I have always fancied making a New York Beauty quilt one day.......could be the beginning of something beautiful!!!!!

OH DEary Me!!! I'm such a slacker!!!

Yes, so sorry my DEAR Viewers......just have NOT really gotten back into full sewing swing since my sewing slump began a year ago........

BUT I have been doing some little bit of sewing and I completed this purse......is for a friend that visited me in the beginning of June....but I didn't get it finished in time to send her home with it.......sigh.......

Did I mention that she likes pink???  It turned out very pretty!!

¿He mencionado que ella le gusta rosada?? Resultó muy bonito!

Sparkle July

My Project, Named 'Sparkle July' is growing.  And the photo is taken with a better camera so I hope a shows the block better.  I am thinking that I will increase the amount of blocks to make my plan for the back work out better for me.

Hello, I'm back.

I have been going through my first ever sewing slump, and boy, was it a doozie!!  I just lost all desire to sew.  It started last July after my return from Florida & North Carolina.  I can't tell you what happened but I just wasn't inspired to do nothing!  Well, now things are happening in my sewing room.  I have been working on a project called 'Sparkles July'.  I'm slowly getting my ju ju back.
here is a photo of the blocks I have 19 done now.  Sorry this photo is not the best but there will be more as I progress with the project.

Puttering Around/ Arreglando Alrededor

Sorry to all, I've been just sort of bouncing around Sewingville unable to really concentrate on any one thing for very long.

I've played with making house blocks. Recently I purchased some Christmas Fabric (I've never bought any seasonal fabric before) but I thought I'd like something for Christmas and I've been loving the house blocks - BTW the theme for our next 8 x 11 project is Casa (that's house in your language) - this is going to be a no brainer this time around!

I've experimented with mug rugs.  The Double 4 Patch quilt really rendered tons of scraps for mug rugs and then I had some pieces left over from the Milky Way quilt and there are many more possibilities hiding around here.

I've gotten out bits and pieces of old projects and played.  Quite some time ago I was playing with scraps from some Blue stuff and then for the last 8 x 11 project I first toyed with the idea of threading painting a sun and a moon for the Duality theme.....I couldn't come up with a good color palette for the moon - time was getting short and I only had two suns that I liked - so I made the Man/Woman block for my offering and the rest is history.  Last Sunday I slapped one of the suns onto the blue stuff with Heat and Bond and it's waiting to be more securely attached with a satin stitch.

Also I'm in the process of hand sowing on the binding for my Double Four Patch.  In the evenings when we are waiting TV I plug along on this chore.  It's really slow for my to watch TV and hand sow but I do enjoy it.

Well, that's what I've been up to.  I don't really feel like I'm accomplishing much but after this post I can see that, yes, things are getting worked on.

He experimentado con Mug Rugs.

He salido pedazos de viejos proyectos y jugó.

Duality/Dualidad

Here is my next offering for the "Proyecto 8 x 11".  The theme, DUALITY.  I used Man and Woman for my expression of this theme employing inspiration from Freddy Moran and her man/woman blocks.  I added the use of light and dark background and and black and white checkerboard border, all pretty obvious themes of duality.  I'm happy with my final result and look forward to the next theme whatever it may be.
