One fabric Quilt/Un Quilt de solo una tela

This is the fabric I chose for my One Block Wonder project.  I bought this fabric by the design repeat.  For this technique six repeats are required.  Then the fabric is cut into six segments by the repeat.  With pins the segments are alined to place the fabric as exactly as possible on top of each other.  When all is alined then strips are cut and then the strips are cut into triangles that have each side of the triangle the same length.  The next step - make kaleidoscope hexagon blocks.  After all the hexagons are make then they are arranged to the quilt makers liking......and now I have arrived at something that looks like this:


 El Marzo pasado vino my amiga, Wendy Amoore, para enseñar una clase en que hacemos un quilt solo de una tela. Escogí esta tela para hacer mi proyecto.  Hay que comprar suficiente tela para rendir seis repeticiones del patrono de la tela y además tener suficiente para bordes y espalda del quilt.   Primero corté los seis segmentos de la tela según las repeticiones del diseño.  Con el uso de alfileres los segmentos son alineados con la más exactitud  como posible para el diseño de cada segmento esté alineado exactamente encima de cada uno .  Próximo la tela es cortado en tiras y las tiras son cortado en triángulos.  Los triángulos son costurado en bloques kaleidoscopios de forma hexágono.  Cuando los hexágonos son arreglado al gusto de la quiltera  el resulto es como la foto abajo.

Curtain Quilt finished but not Mounted

OH BOY this monster has a binding!! I used a new binding technique but I had mixed results. I did the double fold (or just folded and pressed the whole binding in half with the wrong side together) and made one long binding strip and sewed it all around the quilt, folding at the corners which is new for me. I normally cut the binding for each side with about 2 inches for each end to later sew the corners and then stitch the binding to each side and make the corners well, this isn't making any sense and I don't know how to make it make sense.....sorry.... The result being that it was much faster applying the binding but the corners don't look so good. I love this quilt but I will also confess that the quilting is not to my liking either. The quilt was just so BIG (130" x 98) and I did NOT construct it using the Quilt As You Go method. OH WELL...... the quilt part is finished. I just have to figure out how I want to hang the curtain.....

¡Sí!  Está terminado hasta el bies!!  Usé nuevo técnico para coser el bies y no es perfecto.  Doblé en mitad y costuré el bies doblando las esquinas pero las esquinas resultaron no tan bueno.  El técnico que normalmente uso toma más tiempo pero no puedo explicar muy bien….lo siento….  En fin el técnico nuevo fue más rápido pero las esquinas no son bonitas.  Me encanta este quilt pero tengo que decirles el quilting tampoco no es muy bueno.  El quilt fue demasiado grande (130” x 98”) y no lo construyé usando “Quilt As You Go” técnico.  NI MODO…..el quilt ya está terminado.  Solo necesito pensar como voy a colgar la cortina…..

Red Faced Lazy Blogger/Blogger Floja

Oh is my face RED!!! It has been a shameful long time since I've posted to this blog. I will not make excuses.... BUT I have been busy in my sewing room from time to time. The 8 X 11 Project girls (me, Wendy and Janet) have 3 little quilts under our belts, the themes being: Sun & Sand, Morning & Postre (that's Dessert in the English language). Those 9 little quilts that measure 8" x 11" are presently on display at the Zacatecas Quilt Show. Wendy has a hand in the organization of the show and she is at the show exhibiting our wares - or little quilts! I completed a quilt some time ago (Organized Chaos) but never posted a photo because it is too big to hang on my clothes line in order to photograph it, so when I get help holding it up I will photograph it and post about it. It was the second in the series I did in my study and application of the simple square. Today I will post photos of the 8" x 11" quilts and then quite soon I should be posting photos of more things!!! There are many more things..... ¡Me da mucha pena! Ha sido un enorme cantidad de tiempo que no he escrito nada en este blog. No tengo excusa. PERO he estado muy ocupado en mi cuarto de coser de vez en cuando. Las mujeres del Proyecto 8 x 11 (yo, Wendy y Janet) hemos hecho 3 quiltitos con los temas de: Sun & Sand (Sol y Arena), Morning (La Mañana) y Postre. Estos 9 quiltitos (colchitas) que miden 8” x 11” ahorita están en exhibición al Show de Quilts en Zacatecas. Wendy está involucrada con el show y está exhibiendo nuestros quiltitos. Terminé un quilt hace un rato (Caos Ordenada) pero nunca envié una foto porque el quilt es demasiado grande para colgar y fotografiar. Cuando tengo ayuda mandaré una foto. Este quilt es el segundo en el serie que he hecho en mi estudio e aplicación del cuadro sencillo. Así que, hoy, mando fotos de los 8” x 11” quilts y entonces mando (ojala que pronto) fotos de más cosas. Mucho más cosas……

Continuing with the "Curtain Quilt"

Well, I worked the weekend cutting 2 1/2" squares for the borders of my Curtain Quilt Project. Yesterday started adding the squares to the border areas and uniting the blocks for the center of the quilt. Today I have to work, but maybe if I get my business finished I will have a couple of hours to work on the project.


Pues, trabajé el fin de la semana pasada cortando cuadros de 2 ½ “ para los bordes del “Quilt Que Va Hacer Cortina”. Ayer empecé aumentando los cuadros a las áreas de las bordes y también uniendo bloques para el centro del quilt. Hoy tengo que trabajar pero espero que esta tarde yo pueda seguir con el proyecto

Diamonds

This design comes from a Kaffe Fasset book. One of the ladies in my quilting group took a fancy to this design and we all decided to give it a try. We each made the strips from our scrap bags and then shared the fabrics between ourselves. I decided to use the more muted fabrics in my project. I'm not a muted fabric person so my level of enthusiasm has flagged on this project. But after getting the blocks assembled I'm not feeling as critical - especially after viewing the photo. I MIGHT make this project bigger or might not....initially I was thinking table runner but the blocks are too big - so I feel like it needs to turn into a lap quilt but that means more blocks of the boring muted colors.....ARG!!! Decisions.....

Este diseño viene de un libro por Kaffe Fasset. Una de las mujeres en el grupo de quilt quiso hacer un quilt de este diseño, así que todas nosotras decidimos probarlo tambien. Hicimos tiras de tela de nuestros retazos de tela y compartimos entre nosotras. Decidí a usar las telas con menos color. Soy una persona que le gusta colores vivos. Por esto no estoy muy emocionando con este proyecto. Pero después de juntar los bloques siento mejor sobre como salio los bloques, especialmente después de ver las fotos. QUIZÁS voy a hacer este proyecto más grande o quizás no. Al principio pensé seria un camino de mesa pero los bloques son demasiado grandes para un camino de mesa. Pienso que este proyecto necesita convertir en un “lap quilt”. Pero esto quiere decir necesito hacer más bloques con tela aburrido. ¡¡¡ Hay Caray!!! Decisiones……

FINISHED!!!/TERMINADO!!!

This is a little 8 1/2" x 11" quilt project that myself and two quilting friends are involved in. One of us picks a theme and then each of us make a quilt to correspond. This is the first project and I picked the theme "Sun and Sand". Here is my offering. The next theme is "Morning".

Este es un quilt chico con medidas de 8 1/2 pulgadas por 11 pulgadas. Este proyecto es algo que yo y dos amigas estamos haciendo. Una de nosotras escoja un tema y entonces cada una de nosotras hacemos un quilt. Este es el primero proyecto y yo escojí el tema "Sun and Sand". Aquí está el quilt que yo hice. Proximo temo "Mañana".

More Trips/Más Viajes

Have been continuing work on the quilt that will be curtains for our bedroom. I'm having such a good time making these little Trips Around the World. I thought I wasn't happy with a couple of them so I made extras to give myself a choice. Now I have to choose.... The first photo that you see hear is the last arrangement that I made and I'm still going to change things around. The blocks go around a corner so this have a distorted appearance, especially in the photos.

Sigo con el quilt que va a ser cortinas para nuestro recamara. Disfruto tanto el proceso de hacer estos chicos Viajes Alrededor el Mundo. Pensé que no estaba feliz con dos de los bloques así que hice dos bloques extras. Ahora tengo que decidir cuales quiero usar…… La foto primera es la arregla ultimo que hice pero todavía voy a cambiar bloques antes que decidir como todo va. La pared de diseño tiene una esquina y hace los bloques aparecer torcido, especialmente en las fotos.
